IntelliGuard Announces further Collaborative Research Agreement with University of Melbourne

30 Jun 2006 - IntelliGuard today announced that its’ 100% owned subsidiary, PowerGuard, has signed an agreement with the University of Melbourne Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering for a further three year research and development project funded under an Australian Government ARC Linkage Agreement. PowerGuard expects to develop further world leading technology as a result of the security-focused collaborative research.

According to Ken Baker, IntelliGuard CEO and founder, “The University of Melbourne has intellectual property and skills in a range of areas compatible with IntelliGuard’s traffic management systems architecture and its software development skills. We’ve already been working together for a while, so it made sense to continue the partnership by way of the new Linkage Agreement. Solutions to complex security problems involve a rare combination of sophisticated programming, data-mining and mathematical skills not readily available to software development firms, so access to professional researchers and University background intellectual property that addresses these security problems is a great asset.”

“During the first stage we will concentrate on identifying pressing problems that need to be solved”, adds Dr Chris Leckie, Associate Professor of Computer Science, University of Melbourne. “This will be done by surveying Internet attacks and setting up a test-bed to simulate them, then investigating the practicality of each scenario given current deployments, and assessing the damage each attack could do. A University research fellow will work with IntelliGuard on the project, with researchers and developers meeting fortnightly to discuss direction and progress.”
