Advanced DDoS Protection
Leading Korean University Deploys IntelliGuard’s DDoS solution to protect its network
26 Jun 2008 - IntelliGuard today announced that Chungnam National University (CNU), one of the most prestigious centers of higher education in Korea, has purchased and deployed IntelliGuard’s DDoS Protection System to protect its campus network.
CNU chose IntelliGuard’s solution to protect against DDoS attacks as well as detect Zombie PCs on the campus network. The IntelliGuard DPS will greatly reduce the burden of managing their strict ACL policies, while the DPS reporting system provides vital information to manage the campus network. Immediately upon installation, by its ability to automatically detect and protect all IP addresses within the University, IntelliGuard’s DPS identified and established controls for traffic from bot infected computers within the University which it was not aware of.
The purchase decision was made by CNU’s Internet Intrusion Response Technology Research Center (IIRTRC). Professor of Computer Engineering Mr. Taeck-Geun Kwon who explained: “We chose the IntelliGuard DDoS Protection System for a number of reasons in addition to its DDoS protection capabilities. Our very strict ACL policies have become harder and harder to manage due to the number of exception rules. With the IntelliGuard DPS’ intelligent traffic pattern training features, we can reduce this management effort. Another vital factor was performance. In the past we have suffered performance degradation from security equipment including firewalls and IPS. The most important thing for us was a system that would not degrade packet forwarding performance.”
“In addition to automatic DDoS attack protection, CNU wanted to monitor individual traffic to each of their servers and identify precisely which are being attacked at any time. Only IntelliGuard’s Multi-Level Traffic Management system could do this for them,” noted Mr Stephen Kim, IntelliGuard Director of Sales, Korea. “They were impressed by the reporting features, and will use the information to reduce security management overhead. Universities such as CNU of Korea face unique and complex security challenges, often with large dispersed networks with tens of thousands of PCs that are frequently compromised by hackers. IntelliGuard has a powerful solution for protecting and managing traffic in and out of such complex networks, and I think many of these universities would be surprised to learn how much it could help them.”
