Fast Packet Capture
Re-engineering Packet Flow Under Linux
IntelliGuard's core software technology increases packet capture capacity by many orders of magnitude on standard hardware platforms. No other solution exists (custom hardware or software) to cross this technical hurdle. This is why no other vendor comes close to IntelliGuard's ability to defend against all DDoS and flash crowd events.
How It Works
IntelliGuard has developed a new network driver under Linux operating systems. It's called the IntelliGuard Userspace Network Driver (IUND).
The IUND communicates directly with standard hardware via a polling-based interface to achieve its performance. It bypasses the kernel and TCP/IP stacks, and interupt processing. The polling-based interface allows it to queue outbound packets and pass them to the Ethernet card(s) in batches, minimizing the latency introduced by traditional methods.

Applications
Fast packet capture has many applications beyond use in IntelliGuard's current appliances. These include:
IntelliGuard's IUND provides the foundation for doing in software what used to be done in hardware.

IntelliGuard's fast packet capture solution:The Future of Fast Packet Capture
Network utilization is increasing, whilst the variety of network traffic is constantly expanding. The result is that network infrastructure developers need a flexible solution for monitoring and managing the network.
IntelliGuard's technology can be deployed to log all network traffic, enabling comprehensive historcial analysis of network traffic and specific events.
